Jan. 16 meeting minutes show Marilynn Brown was elected president and Rana Mitchell was elected vice president/secretary, both by acclamation. The motions to do so were approved 5-0.

Monthly sales tax collections released

Sales tax revenue numbers that reflect December sales are in from the Mississippi Department of Revenue for local municipalities.

MDR collects 81.5% of the 7% sales tax from municipalities and distributes the remaining 18.5% back to the municipalities over a three-month cycle.

U.S. marshals capture man wanted on area charges

A man wanted on charges in Oktibbeha and Webster counties was captured last week by U.S. marshals after evading arrest earlier this month.

The U.S. Marshals Services captured Daniel Jones and Madison Hendricks on Feb. 13 in Greenville, according to the Grenada County Sheriff’s Office and WTVA News.

Defendants arraigned in Webster County Circuit Court
