Webster County School Board members elected board officers for 2024 at their first meeting of the year.
Jan. 16 meeting minutes show Marilynn Brown was elected president and Rana Mitchell was elected vice president/secretary, both by acclamation. The motions to do so were approved 5-0.
Mitchell served as president and Brown as vice president/secretary during the previous calendar year.
Superintendent James Mason suggested the board members attend the Mississippi Schools Boards Association Conference if they did not have the required hours for the year. The conference was held Feb. 12-14.
These items were approved as a part of the Consent Agenda:
• The minutes of the regular board meeting held Dec. 11.
• Kim Harrison as a teacher at East Webster Elementary School, effective Aug. 1.
• Lisa Pittman as full-time bookkeeper at Eupora Elementary School, effective Jan. 16.
• Patti Swindle as a long-term substitute teacher, effective after Jan. 16 when needed.
• Kendrick Adams as substitute teacher, effective Jan. 17, pending background check.
• A field trip request for the Eupora High School senior class.
• Various donations and asset disposals.
Board members also approved financial reports and the docket of clams.
The meeting was held via conference call because of winter weather and dangerous road conditions, according to the minutes. The board adjourned until Feb. 12 and its next regular meeting is set for 6 p.m. March 18.
