Nanih Waiya volleyball coach Dayna Hunter says she hopes her Lady Warriors learned a few lessons in their three-set losses to more experienced Choctaw County and Aberdeen teams last week.
“We let them control the game,” she said. “We didn’t take control soon enough. We didn’t perform like we have been performing. We didn’t play the way we wanted to play.”
While Hunter recognizes the experience of the two teams her Lady Warriors lost too, she also says her team can compete with and beat those teams.
“At the end of the day we should be able to compete,” Hunter said. “As hard as my girls have worked and as much as we have learned, we can play with them. When you are playing good teams like that you have to get up on them early. It builds our confidence and hurts theirs.
“Both of those schools are 3A schools and are in our division,” she said “They have been playing together for several years.”
This week the Lady Warriors were set to visit Kemper County on Tuesday and Aberdeen on Thursday.
“Amory is another one of those big schools that we need to learn that we can compete against,” Hunter said. “Hopefully we learned from those two tests (last week).”
Choctaw County defeated NW 25-15, 25-16, 25-13, while Aberdeen won 25-12, 25-18, 25-17.
Dallyn Nance had two kills and three digs against CCHS, while posting three kills against Aberdeen. I’onnya Coleman and Kaylee Gregory each had kills against Aberdeen, while Chloe Weeks and Jalia Cotton posted five assists each.
