Winston’s 4H Citizenship Club not only got kicked off last Saturday, but it kicked off with great success. There is two things that make for successful 4H Clubs, and that’s caring parents, and willing volunteers. Winston County is blessed to have just that!
The 4H Citizenship Club is designed to introduce youth on the basics of how to be civic-minded, and who does what within the city or county administration/government. Saturday we were fortunate to have Louisville City Police Chief, Sean Holdiness, Police Officer Lawrence Estes, and Louisville City Mayor Will Hill speak to our group on what it means to do those particular jobs, and how rewarding it is to serve the community.
Not only did the 4Hers get the chance to meet these leaders first-hand, we also partnered with the “Litterless Louisville” campaign to do a civic pride activity and pick up litter on Vance Street.
Unfortunately there was a lot of litter, but it served as a great lesson for our club the need to promote not just a litter less Louisville, but harm litter can do the quality of life for the residents, environment, and even wildlife. Plans are to partner with the City of Louisville and adopt that stretch of highway to ensure it stays litter less. So, be looking for our new 4H Citizenship Club Sign on Vance Street (coming soon), and help keep Louisville litter less.
If you have a young person that would be interested in this club, or any other 4H club, give the Winston Extension office a call. Our number is 662-773-3091.
