Winston 4H has grown this year with the addition of several new clubs to include: Sport Fishing, Photography, Kayaking, and Bicycling being the new additions to accompany S.A.F.E.T.Y. (formerly known as Shooting Sports), Sewing, Robotics, and LEGO. The 4H programs offered throughout Mississippi are vast, and there is literally something for every youth.
This new venture for Winston 4H will be a club that will be beneficial to all youth, but particularly youth wanting to learn city and county government, careers within city government and administration in general. This club will also offer community service hours to youth needing these hours for scholarship applications. Also, this club will adopt a city highway, and keep it litter free, so a sense of community pride will be fostered with our club members.
This new club will meet this Saturday October 19 at 9am, at the Winston Extension Office. If you know a youth that wants to get involved in the community and learn community stewardship, careers within city administration, and earn community service hours, this club is for them. Also, if you’d like to volunteer to assist with this club, and be a positive role model for our future leaders, come join us this Saturday.
Mayor Will Hill will be our first guest instructor, and talk to the club about what duties he’s responsible for as the city mayor. He will also introduce the club to the “Litter-Less Louisville Campaign” and partner with us to ensure the safety for all youth as we gather litter each month.
The Winston 4H Community Service Club is guaranteed to be a fun, yet an educational club, and as our 4H slogan states, we will “Learn by Doing.”
