There are 190 students in Weir Elementary, a ‘C’ rated school; according to Principal Robbie Denson that rating has improved over the past two years and improved a letter grade last year, and they continue to aim higher. She added that each year the WES students have grown in both reading and mathematical computation.
The staff and students, including custodians, cafeteria workers and teaching assistants go the extra mile and put in a great deal of hard work while looking out for the welfare of each student.
However, all of that work would mean nothing without a student body that is willing to achieve success. Denson stated that WES has students who are aiming for the stars, students who desire to make their educational journey successful. They have stepped up to the plate and committed themselves to make their education count, and they have risen to the occasion.
Denson added that they are anticipating improved scores in reading, writing, math, and science, and they are working on building student vocabulary and comprehension through a Summer Pilot Program.
They are also looking for more STEM involvement within the school to build student understanding of how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math work together in the real world, and they are eagerly anticipating and hoping to host a Robotics Team this upcoming school year.
