Amy Burdine, who has served as the Choctaw County Circuit Clerk for four years, lives in the Chester community with her husband, Ronnie, and their children, Kailey, 18 and Eli, 10. Burdine, is a member of the Salem Independent Methodist Church, and she enjoys watching sports, reading and baking.
“I have lived in Choctaw County my entire life, and I want to help make it a place that we all can be proud to call home,” said Amy about why she serves on the Chamber Board.
A typical day usually depends on what is on the agenda, whether she is working on court filings, election setup, or spending the entire day in the courtroom. There is always something different going on and she never knows what that next phone call will bring.
Her motivation comes from a desire to always do her best to represent the citizens of Choctaw County well; she loves her job and never wants to take for granted how she reached her position.
She was inspired by Peggy Miller, a former Circuit Clerk whom Burdine worked for. Miller was a strong and determined person who took her job seriously and work hard every day for Choctaw County and its people.
Burdine never thought of herself in a leadership role. She said, “I go to work every day and try my best to do my job and help as many people as possible. I've never seen myself as looking for a leadership role, just doing what I enjoy.”
She advised the next generation of female leaders to get a good education and be prepared to work hard for what they want, and to treat people as they would like to be treated.
