On Tuesday, June 4, at their regularly scheduled meeting, the Ackerman Board of Aldermen heard a presentation from the Ackerman Aspire Team spokesperson Deanie Graves; several other team members were present at the meeting.
Graves reported that the scope of work for Phases I & II along Main St. has been completed with funds provided by the Town of Ackerman, and subsequently the Aspire Team has been awarded $5K from the Mississippi Development Authority. Graves added that the team intends to continue working together, with more projects to enhance Main St. in the areas of the Police Dept., Post Office and the Governors Monuments. The Board did vote unanimously to purchase a watering apparatus to be used for the planters along Main St.
In other action, the Board:
• Tabled further discussion of the annexation issue until a future meeting.
• Tabled discussion about an inter-local agreement between the town and school concerning the park at Pickle Ave & Pine St.
• Voted 5-0 to hire Joey Green for the Water Dept. at a salary of $43K.
• Voted 5-0 to approve the following budget amendments:
• A small municipality grant for sidewalk construction in the amount of $63K.
• $11K to cover costs of the annexation study.
