During their meeting on Monday, March 2, the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors discussed a lake development project with the aim of providing recreational activities and also attracting new residents to the county.
It was stated that with the decline in the county’s population that it is imperative to have something available that will hopefully bring new people into the county.
The Board voted 4-0 to Pickering Engineering, at a cost not to exceed $122K, to begin looking at the scope of work and possible locations.
The Sand Creek area was one site that was mentioned in the discussion. Supervisor Mark Bruce was not in attendance at the meeting.
The Board voted 4-0 to approve a resolution affirming Choctaw County as a Second Amendment Safe Haven; several other counties around the State have already taken this step.
The Board entertained a request from the Town of Weir to help with the clean-up of an unsafe property near Weir Elementary School, and voted 4-0 to do and to bill the Town for the cost of the clean-up.
In other action, the Board:
• Voted 4-0 to approve advertising for a solid waste driver.
• Voted 4-0 to approve the purchase of a mower from Eastside Motors in Louisville, at a cost of $11.1K.
The Board will meet again on Wednesday, March 25 at 9 a.m.
