The Noxapater baseball team opened the 2022 season last week by winning two out of three games.
The Tigers opened with a 16-5 win over Philadelphia and then beat Kemper County 9-7 on Saturday before falling 9-0 to Choctaw County.
Noxapater 16, Philadelphia 5
The Tigers took advantage of 13 walks and three errors as they took a run-rule win over the Tornadoes on Tuesday to open the regular season.
Philadelphia scored single runs in the first, second and third innings while the Tigers scored nine in the first, five in the third and two in the fourth. Philly finished with two in the fifth.
Each team had six hits apiece. Braxton Daughtery led the Tigers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. James Kugle doubled, scored twice and had four RBIs. Luke Welborn walked twice and scored four runs while Cooper McMullen walked three times and scored two runs. Ethan Jones singled and drove in two runs while T.J. Jones walked twice and scored twice.
Welborn started and pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on one hit and five walks while Ethan Jones finished the game and gave up three runs on five hits and five walks.
Noxapater 9, Kemper County 7
The Tigers overcame and early deficit and took a two-run win over Kemper on Saturday in a time-limit contest.
Noxapater scored three in the first while Kemper answered with four runs. The Tigers added one in the top of the second while Kemper answered with three runs. But the Tigers finished with five runs in the fifth to take the win.
Braxton Daughtery was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Ethan Jones was 2-for-3 while Cooper McMullen walked twice and scored both times.
Brady Ellison started the game and gave up four runs on a hit and four walks while Daughtery pitched the last two innings to get the win.
Choctaw County 9, Noxapater 0
The Tigers only had one hit as they dropped a shutout decision to the Chargers on Saturday.
Choctaw scored one in the second, five in the third and three in the fourth on nine hits.
Ethan Easley had Noxapater’s only hit.
James Kugle started on the mound and pitched three innings, giving up six runs on eight hits while striking out four. Cooper McMullen pitched the last inning and gave up three runs on one hit and three walks.
