In their meeting on Monday, February 24, the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to pay off the debt on the Choctaw Regional Medical Center.
The hospital is being paid off eight years in advance resulting in a savings of millions of dollars for the citizens of Choctaw County.
The actual debt on the Medical Center is $4.185M, however one year’s payment is being held in reserve, as a condition of the bond issue. That amount is $1.311M resulting in a final payment of $2.88M.
The Board heard from James Wills who proposed that Choctaw County be made a Second-Amendment Sanctuary County, a step that some other counties are taking.
The Board took the matter under advisement with no further action.
In other action, the Board:
• Voted 5-0 to hire Michael Collins as County maintenance personnel.
• Voted 5-0 to purchase new trucks for all districts except District 1.
• Voted 5-0 to approve the emergency hiring of Corderius Gholston as a part-time deputy.
The Choctaw County Board of Supervisors meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 9 a.m.
