Representatives of Entergy Mississippi met with the Board of Supervisors, during their meeting on Monday, November 4, to state that they have purchased the Choctaw generating facility in the French Camp area, and it is operating at full output. The facility has been taken out of bankruptcy and Entergy plans a $75M investment in the next five years. The generating plant will maintain 21 current jobs and plans to add six more.
Representatives of Neel-Shaffer, Inc. discussed plans to build a mining road under Hwy. 9 which will require lowering Nebo Road one foot for a distance of approximately 100 feet. This is an MDOT project. County Engineer Marty Crowder reviewed the plans and stated that he did not have any objections to the MDOT project. The Board voted unanimously to acknowledge a letter from Neel-Schaffer detailing the project.
Michael Ming, representing the Drug Court, stated that the Town of Weir is interested in purchasing a gray SUV for the payoff price of $17K; the Drug Court intends to purchase a new vehicle at the cost of $29K; the Town of Weir will pay an additional $4K for blue lights for the new vehicle. The Board voted unanimously to approve the measure.
In other action, the Board:
• Voted 5-0 to approve the House Bill 991 participation agreement which offers measures for the Justice Court and other county entities to receive payment for outstanding funds.
• Voted 5-0 to accept the resignation of Robert Bagwell from the Hospital Board of Trustees and voted 4-1 to appoint Robert Huffman to the position. Supervisor Chris McIntire voted against the appointment.
• Voted 5-0 to acknowledge receipt of the Justice Court Aging Report.
• Voted 5-0 to recognize training for the Veterans Affairs Officer.
• Voted 5-0 to approve travel for the Coroner and the Chancery Clerk.
• Voted 5-0 to recognize Thanksgiving Day, and the day after as paid holidays.
The Choctaw County Board of Supervisors meets on the first Monday of each month at 9 a.m.
