At their monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 5, the Ackerman Aldermen heard from engineer Marty Crowder concerning recent repairs to Cherry St. and Ridge Road. Crowder stated that they accepted a bid on the project of $157K and additionally approved a change order to add another section of Cherry St. for $66K. A section of Ridge Road was also added for a cost of $16.7K. The total cost of the projects came in at $1.16K above the original contract.
After recent severe weather, Brent McKnight of the Choctaw County Emergency Management System discussed an emergency plan. McKnight stated that in the case of severe weather the Courthouse will be unlocked for use as an emergency shelter with additional shelter area at the Community Center, if needed. He further added that warning sirens would only be sounded in the area that was threatened.
In other action, the Board:
• Voted 5-0 to sell two police vehicles, a 2012 & 2014 Dodge Charger, to Starkville Police Dept. for a total of $14K.
• Voted 5-0 to obtain Watkins, Ward & Stafford for the Fiscal Year 2018-2019 small Municipality Audit.
• Voted 5-0 to approve travel for Mayor Tim Cutts and Town Clerk Debbie Cagle Boley to the 2020 Mid-Winter Conference in Jackson, MS, on January 14-16, 2020.
