The Mississippi general elections were held on Tuesday, November 5 to elect officeholders to state, local and district positions. Choctaw County followed the pattern in voting for Republicans to all statewide offices which include Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Auditor, State Treasurer, Commissioner of Agriculture & Commerce, Commissioner of Insurance.
The race for Governor was considered by many a tossup going into election day, pitting Lt. Governor Tate Reeves-R against longtime Attorney General Jim Hood-D. Reeves won the election with just over 52% of the vote, while Hood garnered 46.6%. In Choctaw County Reeves had 1977 votes, and Hood had 1020.
Choctaw County will have a new sheriff, Brandon Busby who defeated Kevin Connell by a margin of 2292 to 730. Incumbent Sheriff Cloyd Halford did not run for reelection. Mark Bruce defeated William Peden to fill the office of District 5 Supervisor, 517 to 164. Bruce defeated incumbent Eric Chambers in the primary election.Complete vote totals for Choctaw County are listed below.
