VFW Post 5569 sponsored the annual Veterans Day Program which was held this past Monday morning in the Choctaw County High School Auditorium, and was attended by many veterans and family members, along with the CCHS student body.
Tony Ballard, USAR & VFW Post 5569, Judge-ADV., acted as emcee of the program which featured a series of patriotic music videos. Chaplain Paul Holly, US Army Medic in Vietnam led the gathering in prayer to open the program.
Guest speaker, Charles ‘Charlie’ Wax, former US Marine and state climatologist, spoke about the word ‘free’ which is used very loosely, but nothing is truly free. Our freedom of speech, freedom to assemble, freedom of religion and many more come at a great cost. And without the service and sacrifice of veterans those freedoms would be in jeopardy.
The program closed with the playing of Amazing Grace and Tap as the veterans stood in unison.
The veterans & VFW Post 5569 is grateful to the Choctaw County School District for the use of its auditorium in honor of Veterans Day.
