In their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, May 13, the Choctaw County School District Board of Education John Hooks of Adams & Reese concerning the Desegregation Order of 1970. It was reported that the District has achieved unitary status and is no longer under the order. No action was required on this matter.
The Board heard from Curt & Taryn Shurden concerning a student release request. The release was denied on a 5-0 vote.
The District was made aware that it owns the land behind Ackerman Elementary School between Pickle and Pine Streets, and the District wanted to correct the name on the deed to be the same as all other CCSD property. This was approved on a 5-0 vote.
There was a request from three students finishing 10th grade to be able to expedite graduation; all three students meet the criteria according to policy, and the request was approved on a 5-0 vote.
Due to a recent gas and water leak at Ackerman Elementary School the District is in the process of replacing gas and water lines that are more than 60 years old, with the help of Atmos Energy. The Board approved the measure on a 5-0 vote.
In other action, the Board:
• Set a budget hearing date for July 15 at 10 a.m., and a budget adoption date for July 22 at 10 a.m.
• Unanimously approved a lengthy consent agenda.
• Unanimously approved all financial measures.
