A Eupora man was killed in a single-car crash on a county road over the weekend.
The motor vehicle accident occurred around 4:55 p.m. Sunday, May 5, on Snow Bottom Road, which runs east-west between Old Walthall Road and North Sapa Road.
Sgt. Cole Russell and Sgt Andrew Rogers of the Webster County Sheriff’s Department responded to the accident. Rogers said the MVA occurred just east of Little Black Creek between the Draine Road “loop.”
Upon arrival, Russell said they found a blue Chevrolet pickup that had been eastbound off the north side of Snow Bottom Road. The vehicle had left the road and appeared to have hit a tree, he said.
The driver, who was non-responsive, was identified as Sammy Lee Patterson, 71, of Snow Bottom Road. He had no passengers.
Patterson was removed from his pickup and laid on a flat surface, according to Russell. The deputy said first responders from the Walthall and Eupora fire departments began administering first aid until Emergency Medical Services from North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora arrived.
EMS attempted to resuscitate Patterson but was unsuccessful in doing so, Russell said, and Coroner Scott Dean pronounced him dead at the scene.
Services for Patterson will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, preceded by visitation beginning at noon. Burial will follow in Piney Jordan Cemetery in Clarkson. Patterson was a former factory worker, according to Oliver’s.
