The Nanih Waiya baseball team split a pair of games last week, holding on for an 11-9 win over Houston on Thursday before falling to Millry (Ala.) 8-4 on Saturday.
This week the Warriors, weather permitting, were set to visit Houston on Tuesday and Lake on Friday before hosting Heritage Academy on Saturday in a 1 p.m. contest.
In the win over Houston the Warriors jumped out to a quick lead thanks to a 6-run first, only to have the Hilltoppers cut that to 8-7 after five innings of play. NW then scored three runs in the sixth to stretch out its advantage before Houston added two in the seventh.
Nanih Waiya made eight errors in the game, but was productive at the plate, picking up a dozen hits.
Braxton Flake and Tatum Luke had three hits each for the winners, while Burket Gillis ripped a triple and knocked in a trio of runs.
Taylor Higginbotham added a pair of hits to the NW attack, while Ked Moore and Tanner Courtney each singled. Luke and Courtney had two RBIs each, while Bentley King and Higginbotham each drove in a run. Flake, Luke and Higginbotham scored twice each for the winners.
Higginbotham and Courtney each pitched for NW with Higginbotham striking out six and Courtney fanning three in 1.1 innings of work.
Nanih Waiya scored single runs in the first four innings against Millry to take a 4-1 lead only to give up four runs in the fifth and three in the seventh in the tough loss.
Luke had a huge game at the plate for the Warriors going 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Gillis smacked a double and Austin Sanders and Flake each had a single. Courtney and Sanders had RBIs for NW, while Sanders, Flake, Higginbotham and Gavin Daniel each scored.
Luke and Courtney each pitched for NW in the game, with Luke recording three strikeouts.
