Six qualify for alderman seat in Maben

Six people have qualified for a special election to fill an alderman’s unexpired term in Maben. Next week’s election will be to fill Robert J. Herd’s vacant seat on the Maben Board of Aldermen through June 2025. He resigned effective June 30 after he was hired as executive director of the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority IV.

Webster County School Board accepts bid for insurance

The Webster County School Board has accepted a bid for the district’s insurance. The matter was first discussed June 10, according to minutes of that meeting. Superintendent James Mason and the board heard a presentation from Artie Grimes representing Marketplace for Insurance for the district’s insurance for school year 2024-25.

Bellefontaine area boilwater alert lifted

The city of Eupora has lifted a boil-water alert that had been issued for some customers in the Bellefontaine area late last week. Guy Barnett, the city’s certified water operator, issued the notice July 18 for all customers located north of Water Tank Road in Bellefontaine.
