Supervisors discuss outstanding justice court fines

During their first meeting of 2019, on Monday, January 7, the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors discussed the Justice Court aging report.

The Justice Court is required by law to provide this report to the Board twice a year. The report showed that Choctaw County has $775K dollars in outstanding fines.

Candidates begin filing for upcoming elections

With 2019 being an election year for county and state offices Choctaw County Circuit Clerk Amy Burdine has already seen a number of candidates file to run for the county elections.

The filing period runs from January 2 through March 1 at 5 p.m. and prospective candidates are required to pay a $100 filing fee.

CWD drop site located in Choctaw County

With several cases of chronic wasting disease (CWD) having been reported in north Mississippi, the Mississippi Dept. of Wildfire, Fisheries and Parks is encouraging all hunters to have their deer tested for the highly contagious disease. Toward that aim, there is now a drop site located at WMA Headquarters at 2121 Webster Rd.
