With 2019 being an election year for county and state offices Choctaw County Circuit Clerk Amy Burdine has already seen a number of candidates file to run for the county elections.
The filing period runs from January 2 through March 1 at 5 p.m. and prospective candidates are required to pay a $100 filing fee.
Following is a current list of those who have filed: Democrat or Republican based on the filing is denoted beside the name.

• Supervisor Beat 4: John Avery Shumaker (D)

• Sheriff: Brandon Busby (D); Doug McHan (D)
• Justice Court Judge, Post 1: William A. “Andy” Stephenson (D)
• Justice Court Judge, Post 2: Teresa Weeks, (D)
• Tax Assessor/Collector: Lori Power Kerr (D)
• Circuit Clerk: Amy Burdine (R)
• Chancery Clerk: Steve Montgomery (D)
• Coroner: Keith Coleman (D)

Additionally, two Republican legislators whose districts encompass all or part of Choctaw County had qualified as of Friday to seek another term: District 15 Sen. Gary Jackson of French Camp and District 35 Rep. Joey Hood of Ackerman.
Party primaries are Aug. 6 with runoffs Aug. 27, if needed. The general election is Nov. 5. Polls open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m on election days.
