Mid Mississippi Challenge once again huge success

They started playing basketball at the Mid Mississippi Challenge hosted by Choctaw County at 9:30 Saturday morning and finished up more than 13 and a half hours later with the completion of nine games.

“It was a huge success,” said boys coach Gary Beals. “A lot of close games. We had nice crowds all day long.”

Interesting numbers found inside final AP, Coaches’ polls

The final college football polls are out and at least two fan bases have a reason to feel slighted.

Alabama fans are probably wondering why the Tide is eighth. The only losses were to National Champion LSU by five points and Auburn on the road without the Tide’s starting quarterback by three.

CCHS boys, girls split region contests

The Choctaw County boys and girls basketball teams both had a win and a loss last week in the first two Region 4-3A games of the season.

The Chargers lost to Houston 60-52, then defeated Aberdeen 44-35. It was the reverse for the Lady Chargers with a 45-40 overtime victory over Houston and a 53-28 loss to Aberdeen.

FCA Panthers split two region contests

The French Camp boys basketball team split two Region 5-1A games last week, leaving the Panthers tied for third in the six-team district with a 2-2 record. French Camp defeated McAdams 49-35, but lost to West Lowndes 61-54.
