In a regular meeting held on Monday, May 3, the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors entered into a discussion about fees for use of the County’s landfill facility. It was noted by District 3 Supervisor, Chris McIntire, that out of county vehicles were using the facility at no charge. The Board voted 3-0 to change the policy of the landfill to $20 per pickup load, $40 for larger trucks and trailers, with an additional $10 for excess weight. Any vehicle with out- of-county plates will be charged $30 for pickup and $60 trailers. No trailer longer than 30 feet and no dump trailers will be permitted. Supervisors Greg Fondren and Mark Bruce were not present at the meeting.
The Board also entered into a discussion concerning the protocols of when and under what circumstances the weather sirens will be sounded. Currently, only Emergency Management Director Brent McKnight is authorized to sound the alarms. No action was taken on the matter.
The Board voted 3-0 to approve a resolution dealing with application of a CDBG grant in the amount of $600K with the County match of $300K and a match from the Hospital of
$300K. The funds would be used for the Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
The Board voted 3-0 to adopt the State Aid Road plan as presented by the County Engineer Marty Crowder, in the estimated amount of $3M and authorize signatures of the Board of Supervisors.
In other action, the Board:
•Voted 3-0 to approve the advertisement of surplus property located at the Sheriff’s Office which was declared surplus during the April 2021 term.
•Voted 3-0 to order an inter-fund transfer in the amount of $25K from fund 001 to fund 165.
•Voted 3-0 to recognize and receive five bids for surplus equipment located in Beat 2 to be opened at the May 17 Board meeting.
•Voted 3-0 to recognize a letter from the litter crew of bags of litter pickup during the month of April: 388 bags on Hwy 9, 385 bags on Hwy 15, and 497 bags on Hwy 12.
•Voted 3-0 to approve the sixteenth section lease of Henry Brown.
•Voted 3-0 to recognize the training certificates of the Circuit Clerk Burdine and Justice Court Judge Weeks.
•Voted 3-0 to approve the Jail Inspection for the month of April.
•Voted 3-0 o approve the Payroll docket dated April 30, 2021 in the amount of $164.6K.
