The Wolverines jumped out to a big lead and never looked back as they took a 25-point win over the Wildcats on Friday to open division 2-2A play.
East Webster jumped out to a 21-8 lead in the first period and then outscored Calhoun 13-7 in the second to lead 34-15 at the half. “I thought we played really well,” Ginn said. “They are a high-pressure team and they tried to trap up and we did a good job with that. We were able to score off that pressure. We played them straight man to man the whole game and didn’t give up any easy shots. We made them shoot it over us and did a good job of rebounding the basketball. They didn’t have a good shoot night and we did, that was the difference.”
Carrin Townsend had a big night as he led the Wolverines with 25 points. Reid Gatlin and Keevon Patterson each had 10 points apiece while Kenton Jones had nine points. Cainin Reed had eight points and Sedrick Taylor added five points.

“We were actually up in the fourth and then Kadisha Bryant picked up her fourth foul,” Ginn said. “We had been able to pressure them and when she picked up her fourth, we had several with four and couldn’t pressure them. The foul trouble changed how we were able to guard them. They are a pressure them but we were able to put pressure on them and got them rattled. Once Kadasha had to sit down, they were able to regain their composure. They were able to hit their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.”
Whitney Winer led East Webster with 18 points while Bryant an Isha Patterson each had eight points apiece. Mary Grace Gregg had seven points while Mariah Bell had five points.
