After defeating Caledonia 69-55 in last Tuesday’s MHSAA Class 4A second round, Louisville saw its season come to a close with its 59-57 overtime loss to Byhalia in Round 3.
The Wildcats ended their season at 17-11.
Four Louisville players tallied double-digit scoring performances against Caledonia. Shemar Eiland led the way with 16 points, Bryandrea Shumaker and Jy’Kevious Hibbler ended with 11 and Tequavious Braggs contributed 10.
Caledonia held a 15-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended the advantage to 28-14 at halftime, but the Wildcats surged in the second half.
Louisville scored 27 and 24 points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, to seal the victory.
After ending regulation with the score tied at 54, Louisville and Byhalia entered overtime last Thursday, where Byhalia outscored the Wildcats 5-3 to advance to the quarterfinals.
Braggs finished with a team-high 17 points, and Deonte Yarbrough chipped in 10. Byhalia’s RaMond Tuggle led all scorers with 20 points, while his teammate, Kavonta Tunstall poured in 18. Tuggle also posted a team-high 11 rebounds.
GIRLS
The Louisville Lady Wildcats went 1-0 last week en route to claiming their spot in Monday’s MHSAA Class 4A semifinals at the Mississippi Coliseum.
The Lady Wildcats defeated Senatobia 57-55 last Monday to advance to the Final Four.
Louisville (26-4) led 18-10 at the end of the first period and added another 18 points in the second quarter to take a 34-21 lead into the break.
Senatobia outscored Louisville 22-9 in the third quarter, sending the Lady Wildcats into the final eight minutes with the score tied at 43. Louisville outscored Senatobia 14-12 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
