WEBSITE TABS NW AS 1A TEAM TO BEAT
According to the website Mississippi Gridiron, Nanih Waiya has a great chance to repeat as MHSAA 1A State Football Champions this fall. And one of NW’s biggest challenges is expected to come from cross-creek rival Noxapater.
While the Warriors are Mississippi Gridirons preseason No. 1 selection, they are followed by Hollandale Simmons (the team NW beat in the title game last year), Lumberton, Smithville and Noxapater.
Interestingly enough three of those teams — NW, Noxapater and Smithville — all compete in Region 2-1A.
Smithville hosts both Noxapater (Sept. 13) and Nanih Waiya (Nov. 1) this year, while the Oct. 3 showdown between Nanih Waiya and host Noxapater will obviously be a big one.

PATRIOTS COUNTING ON SENIORS
Winston Academy returns eight football players for their senior years and another group of juniors that went through the tough 2-8 season last year and came out stronger.
“We’ve got eight seniors and all of them have done a good job with the leadership role. Some are more vocal than others, but I want to make sure they do their part before they open their mouth. They’ve been a good example to the young guys.”

NW, NOXAPATER IN TOUGH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE
Nanih Waiya and Noxapater will both be playing volleyball in Class 1 Region 4 this season along with five other schools.
The MHSAA plays volleyball in four classifications — Class 1, 6A, 5A, and 4A. Class 1 is made up of schools who are in 3A, 2A, and 1A. Joining Noxapater and NW in Class 1 Region 4 are fellow second-year program Kemper County along with more experienced teams in Choctaw County, Amory, Aberdeen and West Lowndes.
The two two teams in each region qualify for the MHSAA playoffs.
