A downtown “street-calming” project is intended to make it safer for pedestrians to cross the city’s main street (North Dunn).
Sam Krusee with Belinda Stewart Architects presented the proposal to the Eupora Board of Aldermen on Aug. 5 on behalf of the firm’s Stephanie Stewart, who was unable to attend. The board gave its approval for the project.
Krusee said the measure will involve transforming the Roane Avenue and Fox Avenue intersections with North Dunn to make them more pedestrian friendly. Curb extensions will be painted on each corner of both intersections to make vehicles turn at a tighter radius. The crosswalks will also be painted.
The curb extensions will be painted maroon to tie in with the Eupora Eagle logo on North Dunn.
Aldermen authorized the purchase of the necessary paint and materials, and directed the Street Department to work with volunteers to carry out the project.
