OXFORD – The girls doubles team of Raney Peacock and Grace Ann Wells was the only French Camp representative to win a match at the individual tennis tournament for 1A and 2A schools. They won a third set tiebreaker for a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 victory over Paige Shedd and Elizabeth Stogner of West Lincoln, then lost to Sarah Hults and Allyson Massey of Resurrection 6-3, 6-2.
French Camp qualified two singles player and two other doubles teams for the competition.
Joshua Miller was defeated by Trey Posey of Philadelphia in boys singles 6-1, 6-0. Ella Copenhaver lost to Cathy Li of Mississippi School for Math and Science 6-1,7-6 in girls singles.
In boys doubles, Jason May and Bradley McGlothin had an opening round bye, then lost to Will
Burton and Samuel Turner of East Webster 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
Cameron Smith and Ruthie Storment lost to Maycee Chambers and Walker Moreland of New Site 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in mixed doubles.
“They played hard. It just wasn’t our day,” said coach Larry Mincher.
In team competition, French Camp finished second in Region 2 for 1A/2A and lost to East Webster in the opening round of the playoffs.
There were four seniors among the 12 players for French Camp this year – May, McGlothin, Smith and Kenzi Seawright, who played on the No. 2 girls doubles team.
“Those three boys have been on my team for a long time. I’m really going to miss them,” Mincher said.
