WINONA – Choctaw County junior Israel Whitmore will defend his 3A championship in the boys discus at the state meet Friday at Pearl High School. He qualified for the state meet by winning the event at the 3A North State meet at Winona High School.
The top four in each event will move on to the state meet. Whitmore also qualified in the high jump with a second place finish.
Other boys qualifiers were Julius Buggs with third in the discus and the 3200 relay team of Devonta McMillan, Jared Bellew, Trenton McGee and Brandon Hadley, which finished second.
Choctaw County girls do not have any qualifiers.
Other boys participating in the North State meet were Whitmore, fifth in the long jump; Buggs, fifth in the shot put; McGee, seventh in the pole vault; Julian Foreman, eighth in the triple jump; and the 1600 relay team which was seventh.
For the girls, N'Kia Belk was fifth in the 300 hurdles and Fannie Miller sixth in the 100.
