Last week may have been exciting but it certainly wasn’t any fun for the Noxapater baseball team.
The Tigers lost a pair of one-run games last week to West Lowndes, falling 9-8 at home on Tuesday and then losing 11-10 on a walk-off home run on Friday.
The Tigers hope to get back on track this week as they host McAdams in a doubleheader on Monday that has playoff implications. The Tigers will host Ethel on Tuesday and return the trip on Thursday in their scheduled games this week.
West Lowndes 9,
Noxapater 8
West Lowndes built an 8-2 lead before scoring a run in the sixth inning to take a one-run win over Noxapater on Tuesday.
Noxapater scored single runs in the first and second innings to tie the game at 2-2. But West Lowndes scored four in the third and one in the fourth and fifth to take an 8-2 lead. But Noxapater rallied back and scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score. The Panthers then scored one run in the top of the sixth and held of the Tigers to take the win.
The Tigers had seven hits in the contest as Lane Bailey had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Ty Duran was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Riley Jones had a double and drove in two runs while Depodray Coburn had three stolen bases and scored two runs. Landon Bailey had Noxapater’s other hit.
Bailey got the start and pitched three innings, giving up six runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out four. Nick Stone pitched the final four innings and gave up three runs on six hits while striking out two.
West Lowndes 11,
Noxapater 10
West Lowndes needed extra innings on Friday to take a walk-off win from the Tigers on Friday night.
West Lowndes jumped out and scored four runs in the bottom of the first before Noxapater fought back with two runs in the second and third innings. After each team scored one run in the fourth, West answered with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 10-5 lead. But the Tigers answered again with a five-run seventh inning to tie the score and send the game into extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, West Lowndes got a solo home run to take the win.
Noxapater had 11 hits in the contest as Depodray Coburn was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Hunter Johnson, Dalton Keen and Landon Bailey each went 2-for-5 in the contest while Lane Bailey singled and scored three times. Landon Bailey also had three stolen bases as the Tigers swiped eight bases.Ty Duran had a single and drove in two runs while Zach Kimbriel had a single and drove in a run. Nicke Stoney walked twice and scored twice.
Hunter Johnson got the start and pitched 4 2/3 innings as he gave up six runs on five hits and eight walks while striking out eight. Ty Duran pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up three runs on one hit and three walks. Nick Stone pitched 2 2/3 innings and took the loss as he gave up two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out five.
