While it was a little disappointing to win the first two sets, before dropping the next five, Nanih Waiya High School volleyball coach Dayna Hunter said the team they lost to, West Lowndes, is much improved.
“We did a lot of good things, especially in the first two sets,” Hunter said. “But give West Lowndes credit, they have really improved since the last time we played them. We won the first two sets then we just kind of settled in.”
The Lady Warriors were set to close out their second season against Noxapater on Monday. Results of that match will be in next week’s Winston County Journal.
All five sets were close as Nanih Waiya won the first two 25-22 and 25-23. West Lowndes came back to win the next two 25-23 and 27-15, before winning the deciding fifth seats 15-12.
Dallyn Nance had 11 kills for NW in thematic, while I’onnya Coleman registered six. Chloe Weeks had seven assists and two kills, while Cheyenne Sten hd six assists and two kills.
The junior varsity lost to WL by the scores of 25-20, 25-20.
Lady Tigers win over Kemper County

Experience matters. That was certainly the case last week for the Noxapater volleyball team last week as they dropped a match to Aberdeen in straight sets, before bouncing back to take a four-set win over Kemper County.
“That experience paid off (for Aberdeen),” Noxapater head coach Pam Mills said. “I know I say that all the time, but it really does matter. They have been playing for 11 years.”
She though her girls rebounded well in the match against KCHS.
Aberdeen took the match with Noxapater 25-5, 25-10, 25-17. Madison Riggs had three digs, two spikes and a block for the Lady Tigers, while Lindsey Mills had two spikes, Mary Grace Mills had two digs, and Jenna and Nona Wilkes had one dig each.
Noxapater won the first two sets over KCHS by identical 25-25 scores, before the Lady Wildcats won the third set 26-24. Noxapater then closed the match out with a 25-18 win.
Lindsey Mills had four spikes, four points, and a dig for Noxapater in that match, while Madison Riggs had four spikes, three points, a dig, and an ace. Addy Webb notched four points, three spikes and two aces, with Nona Wilkes having five points, three spikes and an ace. Jenna Wilkes had two points, an ace and a dig, while Mary Grace Mills had two points and an ace.
The Lady Tigers were set to host Nanih Waiya on Monday before visiting Amory on Tuesday.
Grace Christian picks up two more wins

Grace Christian School went on the road last week and won two matches against Alabama schools. The Lady Eagles rebounded from a first set defeat to down Pickens Academy 28-30, 25-14, 25-16, 25-16, then downed North River Christian 25-16, 25-13, 25-11.
“We were coming off a hard tournament the weekend before,” coach Jamey Willers said of the first set loss to Pickens. “We were kind of jumbled, not as focused. Then we started to get comfortable.”
Jasmine Kelly led the Lady Eagles with 14 kills and four blocks. Bella Brownlee had nine assists and seven digs, Anna Gillis 11 service points and five aces, Annabelle Crowder 17 service receptions and Caroline Robbins nine assists.
Maggie Phillips had 24 service points and nine aces against North River. Crowder had 13 service receptions and seven digs, Brownlee 25 assists, Kelly seven kills and Carly Peterson six kills.
Willers feels her team is playing its best. “We've gotten our service errors down a lot.”
Starkville canceled a match that was scheduled for Tuesday. The Lady Eagles have a match at Choctaw County next Tuesday.
