It was a good week on the basketball court for Nanih Waiya’s boys and girls basketball teams as each unit earned a pair of victories.
The boys defeated Kemper Academy 74-56 and Sebastopol 58-37, while dropping a 68-57 decision to J.Z. George. The girls beat the Lady Rams of Kemper Academy 46-12 and Sebastopol 46-35, while falling to J.Z. George 43-24.
The Warriors and Lady Warriors are set to host Winona on Tuesday, before traveling to Clarkdale on Friday.
The boys used a strong second half in its 18-point win over Kemper, outscoring the Rams 33-17 over the last two quarters. The Warriors trailed 26-21 after one quarter before taking a 41-39 lead at the half.
Tyquan McCully led the winners with 18 points, while Trey McMullan scored 14 and Rico Moore had 11. Daitian Tubby hit for eight points, while Izaiaha Nicholson and Tre Harlan had seven each and Ethan Dailey five.
NW once again posted a come from behind effort in the win over Sebastopol. After trailing 11-6 after one quarter the Warriors led 26-23 at the half, before building the lead to 10 points after three quarters of play.
Nicholson had a big night for NW, scoring 14 points and claiming nine rebounds, while Daily posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards. Moore had 10 pints for the winners, while Tubby had six points and three steals and McMullan had five points and six boards. J.R. Coleman scored five points, while McCully had six rebounds.
In the loss to J.Z. George Nanih Waiya outscored the visiting Jaguars 25-19 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as JZG held on for the 11-point win.
McCully had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Warriors, while Dailey recorded 13 points and eight rebounds. McMullan had 11 for NW and Tubby 10, while Moore had six points and eight boards.
GIRLS
The Lady Warriors shut out Kemper Academy in the first and third quarters on the way to the solid win over the Lady Rams.
A pair of sophomores led NW in scoring as I’onnya Coleman scored 15 points and Ambria Tubby 12. Junior Skylar Eaves added eight points for the winners.
The Lady Warriors fell behind JZG 11-5 after one quarter and 25-13 at the half and couldn’t recover. Tubby led NW in scoring with 11 points in the game.
Nanih Waiya used big first and their quarters to take the 46-35 win over Sebastopol.
The Lady Warriors led 14-6 after one quarter, and outscored the Lady Bobcats 13-6 in the third to stretch out their 25-17 halftime lead and take control of the game.
Tubby led NW in scoring with 21 points, while Coleman and Jalia Cotton notched six each.
