JACKSON – Noxapater Junior Kyler Carter was the winner of the 275 pound weight class at the 1A state powerlifting meet last Saturday at the Mississippi Coliseum.
Carter had lifts of 450 in the squat, 295 in the bench press and 475 in the dead lift for a total of 1,220 pounds to take the State championship.
The only other Noxapater lifter to finish in the top five was sophomore Jaylen Carter, fifth at 275.
Noxapater finished sixth in the team competition with eight points. Sacred Heart was the winner with 29 points, one more than Leake County.
Led by senior Raleigh Grace Parker, Noxapater girls took seventh in Class I for 1A and 2A schools with 12 points. Parker was second at the 97 weight class with lifts totaling 455 pounds. Emma Kay Wages of East Union won with a total of 500 pounds.
Noxapater also had a fourth by junior Kaylan Brown at 132, fifth by senior Katelyn Barnett at 132 and sixth by senior Abria Lewis at 181.
East Union dominated the meet with champions in eight of the 12 weight classes and a Class I record 71 points.
