Louisville High School had a lot of success at the recent District 3-4A Powerlifting meet held at West Lauderdale. The Wildcats finished second as a team behind Newton County and had nine lifters advance to the Region 2-4A meet set for Leake Central on Feb. 22.
The top three lifters in each weight classification advanced from district to region and the top three at region will move on to the 4A North State meet in Pontotoc.
The lifters best effort out of three tries in three disciplines — deadlift, bench, and squat — are totaled together to give the athletes a total pounds lifted, by which the winner is determined.
Taking home first place honors for the Wildcats were: Jaquayvius Hawthorne with 675 pounds lifted in the 123-pound class; Kristian Hopkins, with a 1,265 pounds lifted in the 220-pound class; Omauri Macon with 1,190 pounds lifted in the 245-pound class; and Lanorris Hickman with 960 pounds lifted in the 308-pound class.
Jakerrios Miller posted a second place finish in the 308-pound-plus division with 1,210 pounds. Earning third place finishes and qualifying for the region and their weight classes were: Kentay Roach (114), Jacorey Coleman (165), Vidashunn Yarbrough (220), and Darrion Watson, (308-plus).
Keandre Gill finished fourth in the 181 division while Dantavius Triplett was fifth, while Laquarrius Taylor was fourth in the 242 pounds division with a total weight of 1,125.
