Nanih Waiya offensive tackle Caleb Warren didn’t have any drama or suspense surrounding his signing day.
Warren inked with Ole Miss on Wednesday, Dec. 19 after being committed to the Rebels since June, getting an offer after a summer camp at the Oxford campus.
The signing caps off a whirlwind month for Warren. Earlier this month, He helped lead the Warriors to the school’s first-ever state championship with a win over Hollandale Simmons. Then on Monday, Warren started at right tackle and helped lead Mississippi to a win over Alabama in the annual Mississippi-Alabama All-star football game.
Coach James Courtney had a few words to say about the anchor of his offensive line before he put his name on the dotted line with the Rebels.
“It’s not every day the you get to have a player sign an SEC scholarship, especially at a 1A school,” Courtney said. “More importantly than that, Caleb did it the right way. He is a humble guy and gave an extreme amount of effort on every play. He was a pleasure to coach. We are excited for his next opportunity to go to Oxford and we expect big things out of him. We are really proud of him. I can’t say enough about him and am excited for him.”
Warren, 6-foot-4, 305 pounds, was rated as a three-star prospect by ESPN, Rivals and 247sports. Warren was ranked as the No. 54 offensive guard in the nation by ESPN. Warren committed to the Rebels in June and stayed steady with that choice. Warren was one of 25 players Ole Miss signed in the early signing period.
In all, the Rebels signed seven offensive lineman, a position of need according to coach Matt Luke.
“Huge needs in the O-line and at wide receiver,” Luke said at his signing day press conference. “(We were) able to address those; I thought Coach Bicknell did an unbelievable job with the offensive line, and then signing a junior college receiver that could come in and give us some immediate help there with some guys leaving. But overall, being able to sign 25 guys, 16 of which are from the state of Mississippi. We all knew the '19 class was really, really good, but to sign 16 guys from Mississippi, really, really proud of that. And again, a lot of quality young men in this class and excited about it. I think it's a huge step toward rebuilding this program, and having the opportunity for the first time to get back to 85 scholarships, so looking forward to it."
Warren recently played in the Mississippi/Alabama All-star game where he helped guide Mississippi to a win behind a punishing rushing attack.
“Caleb has unbelievable character and comes from a great family,” Ole Miss assistant coach Jack Bicknell Jr., said. “He works hard and reminds me a lot of Ben Brown. He will be an outstanding player.”
Warren plans on majoring in engineering. Warren told 247sports he will likely be moved to guard once he enrolls in May.
“They're losing four guys on the offensive line, so he's really expecting some of these younger guys to come in and be ready to play.” Warren told 247sports. “That's what he told me."
