Nanih Waiya may be headed for another Class 1A state championship, this time in golf.
The Warriors have started the season by winning all four matches they have played in and will try to make a run at a state championship this season.
The Warriors are led by Jake Kight, a University of Memphis signee in golf, who has been a medalist in all three matches they have played this season.
On Monday, the Warriors won their third straight event in a match played at Dancing Rabbit in Philadelphia with a score of 328. Kight was the medalist in the event with a score of 77, barely beating out Cody Clark who shot a 78. Braxton Stokes shot an 86 while Coley Taylor shot an 87 to finish out the team score for the Warriors. Trey McMullan also shot a 93 for the Warriors but didn’t count toward the team score. Southeast Lauderdale, Puckett, Newton County, Choctaw Central and Forest also participated in the event.
In other events, Nanih Waiya beat out six other schools to win their first match of the season at Louisville Country Club. In that event, the Warriors shot 332 to win by 18 strokes over Kosciusko. Kight was the medalist in the event as he shot a 67. Cody Clark shot an 81 while Coley Taylor shot 88 and Bryce Woodruff shot 96. Kosciusko was second with a 350 while Choctaw County was this with a 351, followed by Starkville Academy with a 386 and Bruce with a 411.
In their second match of the season, the Warriors shot a team score of 311 to beat out four other schools. In that match at Louisville Country Club, Kight shot a 68 while Cody Clark shot a 78. Braxton Stokes shot an 81 while Coley Taylor followed with an 84. Kosciusko was second with a 354 while Choctaw County was third with a 361, followed by Neshoba Central at 362 and East Webster at 414.
In their third match of the season at Kosciusko Country Club, the Warriors hot 329 as Kight was medalist again with a score of 73. Braxton Stokes shot 83 while Cody Clark shot 84 and Coley Taylor shot an 80.
The Warriors will play in the division tournament on Wednesday while the Class 1A state tournament will be April 29 and 30th at Old Waverly in West Point.
