WINONA – Nanih Waiya boys placed third at the Region 3-1A track meet Monday at Winona High School and the girls finished seventh. Noxapater boys and girls were both eighth.
The Nanih Waiya boys had 69 points, trailing French Camp with 117 and West Lowndes with 93. The girls had 20 points. Vardaman won the meet with 143 points.
Noxapater boys had 19 points and the girls 2.
For Nanih Waiya, Jaynus Williams was first and teammate Lee Poole second in the long jump. Also the 3200 relay team of Trey McMullan, Poole, Carter Grimes and John Tabor Stokes finished first.
Those were the only first place finishes for either Nanih Waiya or Noxapater.
The top four in each event qualify for the 1A South State meet which will be held Saturday at Madison Central.
Other boys who qualified for Nanih Waiya are Ethan Dailey, second in the 300 hurdles; Stokes, second in the triple jump and third in the 400; and McMullan, third in the 800, third in the 1600 and third in the 3200; Stokes.
For the Nanih Waiya girls T.J. Redhouse was second in the 3200 and third in the 800 and third in the 1600.
Kyler Carter qualified second for the Noxapater boys in the shot put and Ryan Whitfield took third in the discus.
