Five Louisville High School powerlifters performed well enough in last Saturday’s regional powerlifting meet to qualify for the MHSAA Class 4A North State event at Itawamba High School on March 20.
The top three finishers in each weight classification at that meet will qualify for the state meet to be held at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson
Jaquayvius Hawthorne and Kristian Hopkins took gold meals in their weight divisions, while Kentay Roach and Jakerrios Miller claimed seconds and Jacorey Coleman finished third.
Hopkins won the 220-pound division with a total weight of 1,280 pounds. He had 500 in the squat and deadlift events and 280 in the bench. Hawthorne was first in the 123-pound class with 300 in the deadlift, 250 in the squat and 150 in the bench for a total of 700 pounds.
Miller, competing in the 308-pound plus class, took second with a total of 1,285 points. He recorded a 545 deadlift, a 500 pound squat and a 240 pound bench.
Roach had a 260 pound deadlift, 165 pound squat and a 120 pound bench to take second in the 114-pound class.
Jacorey Coleman had a 435 pound deadlift, 175 bench and 335 squat to take third in the 165 pond division with a total of 945 pounds.
Lannoris Hickman was fourth in the 308 pound class with a total fo 1,075 pounds, while Darrion Watson was fourth in the 308-plus division with 1,125 pounds.
Newton County won the meet with 36 points, while Leake Central was second with 31 and Louisville third with 30 points.
