The Nanih Waiya volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to top competition last week, but the Lady Warriors bounced back to take a win over Winston Academy in four sets to open this week.
NW was set to visit West Lowndes on Tuesday, before closing out the season at Noxapater on Monday, Oct. 7.
The Nanih Waiya Varsity defeated WA 25-20, 2-25, 25-13, 25-18 on Monday behind six aces and five assists from Jalia Cotton. Dallyn Nance had nine kills and two aces for the winners, while Chloe Weeks recorded six assists, Kaylee Gregory had two kills and I'onnya Coleman had one. The Nanih Waiya junior varsity team took a 26-24, 25-12 win behind 10 aces from Cheyenne Steen.
NW opened last week’s play with a 25-13, 25-12, 25-23 loss to Grace Christian in varsity play.
“We played a lot better in the third set,” said NW head coach Dayne Hunter. “We were getting our serves over the net and making good first passes.”
Nance had six aces and two Kills while Cotton and Weeks each had an ace and an assist. The junior varsity lost to GCS 25-18, 25-18.
Later in the week the Lady Warriors fell to a powerful Choctaw County squad 25-10, 25-13, 25-12. Nance had three kills, while Gregory, Coleman and Steen had one each.
The junior varsity lost 25-16, 25-10, while the junior high team took a 25-20, 25-18 victory over the Lady Chargers.
