The Lady Warriors of Nanih Waiya used a pair of basketball wins last week to improve to 5-3 on the season headed into home games with Kemper Academy on Tuesday and Union on Thursday.
The NW girls defeated Class 3A Winona 42-30 last Tuesday and Class 2A Clarkdale 49-20 on Thursday.
Nanih Waiya outscored Clarkdale 31-7 in the second half to put the game away. Skylar Eaves led the winners with 13 points, while Jalia Cotton hit for eight and Morgan Mills and I’onnya Coleman each added seven. Ambria Tubby scored six, while Marleigh Smith and Madison Alford had four each.
The game with Winona was tied 12-12 at the half, before the Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Tigers 12-1 in the third quarter.
Tubby led the winners with 11 points, while Smith had nine, Mills eight and Coleman six. Alford and Cotton added four each.
BOYS
The Nanih Waiya boys dropped a heartbreaker on the road to Clarkdale by the score of 63-61. NW led at the end of the first and second quarters and the game was tied 39-39 going into the last quarter of play.
Rico Moore scored 20 points and had seven rebounds to lead the Warriors, while Ethan Dailey had 16 points and nine boards and Izaiaha Nicholson posted a double/double with 10 points and 11 boards.
Trey McMullan added seven points and five rounds, while Tyquan McCully had four points and four rebounds.
Against the Tigers of Winona, NW fell behind early and couldn’t recover. Winona led 25-13 at the half and 42-26 after three quarters of play.
Moore led the Warriors with 15 points, while McCully scored nine, McMullan seven and Dailey and Nicholson six each. Dailey had seven boards to lead NW.
