Grace Christian volleyball had a busy week with seven matches, including five last Saturday in a tournament at Oxford High School. The Lady Eagles had 3-0 victories over Winston Academy and Nanih Waiya before losing four of five in the tournament.
Grace Christian defeated Winston Academy 25-15, 25-13, 25-9 and Nanih Waiya 25-13, 25-12, 25-23.
Jasmine Kelly had seven kills and six aces against Winston Academy and Carly Peterson had six kills. Peterson and Maggie Phillips each had 13 service points. Assist leaders were Annabelle Crowder with seven and Bella Brownlee with six.
In the Nanih Waiya match, Kelly had 10 kills and Caroline Robbins had seven. Phillips had 18 service points and six aces, Brownlee 16 assists and Crowder 11 service receptions and three digs.
The one victory at Oxford came against Greenville 25-15, 25-7. The Lady Eagles were defeated by Oxford 2-0, Germantown 2-0, Water Valley 2-0, and Macon Road Baptist of Tennessee 2-1.
“I think a lot of it was mental, going against bigger schools,” said coach Jamey Willers. “We made a lot of mistakes.”
The Lady Eagles played Pickens Academy of Alabama Tuesday and have road match with North River Christian of Alabama Thursday.
