French Camp made some key free throws, enabling the Panthers to defeat Ethel 48-46.
“We had a good lead, five or six points, in the fourth quarter,” said coach Robert Leathers. “They came back and tied it, but we were able to make some free throws.
Calvin Johnson made 11 from the charity stripe and scored 19 points for French Camp. Holman Edwards added 10 points.
“It was a tough game.” Leathers said. “We talked a lot about being mentally prepared and being ready to play before we take the court. The kids really responded well. I thought they kind of grew up a little bit.
“We needed this game. It’s a confidence booster for us knowing we can win a game like this.”
The Lady Panthers turned the ball over 46 times, resulting in a 65-46 loss to Ethel.
“Fatigue played a great part in the outcome,” said coach Priscilla Anderson. “We’ve got to get in shape.”
Madison Klein scored 23 points for French Camp and Jasmine Bonty had 18.
The Panthers and Lady Panthers will not play again until facing West Lowndes at home Jan. 8.
