Eupora head football coach Stephen Edwards said his Eagles have had a good spring. Edwards said he has had between 47 and 50 dressed out this spring.
“We moved up about 18 eighth graders who will be freshmen next year,” Edwards said. “They beat Choctaw County and had a good spring and help our numbers. We only had about 35 out last year so the extra bodies helps a lot. It’s been tough to keep up with all the kids.”
Eupora will play a Maroon and White scrimmage on Friday, weather permitting.
Edwards said the competition for quarterback has been good between Cade Atkins and Ty Murphy.
“We will probably be a little more spread than we were last year,” Edwards said. “We’ve got some good running backs in Tre McCombs and Trevon McMillan. Whichever one of them isn’t in the backfield will be at a slot We’ve got some pretty good receivers coming back as well with DaDa Brown and Zak Morris. We’ve got some good linemen coming back and have a little more depth than we did last year.”
Edwards also said he has two defensive players who have had standout springs in Devonte Watson and Morris at safety.
“Watson is probably going to get offered by Jackson State early,” Edwards said. “He is a 6-1, 210-pound kid and has had a really good spring. I suspect he’ll get offered early and Zak Morris will probably get offered by Mississippi Delta. They are both bigger kids.”
