The Eupora Lady Eagles were somewhat disappointed at the end of the regular season when a loss to Calhoun City gave East Webster the Division 2-2A championship.
But Eupora has used that motivation and is now within two wins of playing for the Class 2A state title.
The Lady Eagles took a 4-3 come-from-behind win in game 1 of the series and then took a 13-7 win on Monday to take the series and advance in the Class 2A playoffs.
"Harper Doggett struggled a little in the fourth inning but settled down and finished the game,” coach Amir Hunt said. “She threw two absolute gems this series. It’s not often you see an eighth grade pitcher step up and control games like she has recently. Overall, we hit the ball as well as we have all season. I’m very proud of the girls.”
Eupora advances in the Class 2A playoffs and will take on another hot team in Philadelphia. The Lady Tornadoes swept East Webster to advance, winning 6-1 and 3-2.
