After going 0-7 last year on the courts, the Eupora tennis team has been inching closer to victory.
After a close 4-3 loss to New Hope, Eupora finally broke through and beat Caledonia 4-3 for their first win of the season.
Eupora will be off from spring break and return to action on Monday, March 18 as they host Houston. On Thursday, March 21, Eupora will travel to French Camp in a district match and will play at Mooreville on Saturday, March 23.
Thursday’s match with Leland had to be rescheduled but no date has been set for that district match.
Eupora 4, Caledonia 3
Eupora got two wins on the boys doubles side and took a one-match win over Caledonia on Tuesday.
In No. 1 boys doubles, Garrett Crimm and John Thomas Frank took a 7-6, 6-1 win while Cliff Jernigan and Woods Mitchell needed a third-set tiebreaker as they won 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 to get a point. In boys singles, Walker Mitchell fell 6-0, 6-0.
In mixed doubles, Grant Frank and Gracie Burton lost a tough 6-4, 6-4 match.
On the girls side, Belle Powell picked up a big 6-1, 6-3 win in singles while Wesleigh Cummings and Lillian Winter won 7-6, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles to secure the team win. In No. 2 girls doubles, Jasi Brooke Galloway and Madison Goodrum lost 7-5, 6-2.
New Hope 4, Eupora 3
New Hope won two of three games in a third-set tiebreaker to deny Eupora its first win of the season on Monday.
On the boys side, Garrett Crimm and John Thomas Frank lost a tight match at the No. 1 spot, falling 7-5, 6-3, 10-8. Cliff Jernigan and Woods Mitchell won 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. In singles, Grant Frank lost 6-2, 6-0.

On the girls side, Wesleigh Cummings and Lillian Winter dominated their match as they won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2 doubles, Jasi Brooke Galloway and Madison Goodrum also needed three sets but came away with a win. After splitting the first two sets 6-4, Galloway and Goodrum took the third set 10-5 to take the win. In girls singles, Gracie Burton fell 6-0, 6-0.
