East Webster opened up the baseball season with a pair of losses, falling 12-3 to Starkville and 11-1 to Lafayette County.
East Webster will return to play this week as they host French Camp on Monday and open division play on Tuesday as they host Bruce. On Friday, the Wolverines will travel to 5A power Oxford. On Monday, March 11, East Webster will play two-time defending 1A champion Nanih Waiya at 12:30 p.m. at East Central Community College and then play Winston Academy at 3 p.m. on the ECCC campus.

The Wolverines opened the season on Monday and dropped a nine-run decision to Class 5A Starkville.
Starkville scored six runs in the third, three in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh. East Webster scored one in the fourth and two in the sixth.
East Webster had six hits in the contest as Cameron Pilgrim was 2-for-3 with a double while John Wesley Hardin was 2-for-3 a run scored and an RBI. Will Gaskin had an RBI single while Jase Grantham had East Webster’s other hit.
Five pitchers toed the rubber for the Wolverines. Jon Austin Roberts got the start, pitching three innings and giving up six runs, only one earned, on five hits while striking out two. Gray McCarter pitched one scoreless inning with one strikeout. Kainan Reed pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up three runs on two hits and four walks. Will Gaskin pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up one run on one hit while Sloan Hillhouse pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up two runs on one hit and two talks.
Lafayette County 11,
East Webster 1
The Commodores scored in four of the five innings and took a run-rule win over the Wolverines on Thursday.
Lafayette scored two runs in the first, second and fifth innings along with five runs in the third inning. East Webster scored one run in the second inning.
East Webster had just three hits in the contest as Jon Austin Roberts singled and scored a run. Hastings Gibson and Jase Grantham each singled.
Kainan Reed pitched one inning and gave up four runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two. Will Gaskin pitched two innings giving up five unearned runs on six hits. John Austin Roberts pitched one scoreless innings while Gavin Edwards pitched the final 2/3 of an inning, giving up two runs on three hits.
