Choctaw County received strong pitching performances in two games against a very good Houston team, but could not push across any runs, dropping both games by identical 4-0 scores.
“We couldn't string any hits together,” said CCHS coach Andy Young.
In the first game. Billy Ray Evans and Austin Telano allowed only four hits and no earned runs, with six strikeouts. The Chargers had four hits by Telano, Tanner Threadgill, Brice Utley and Austin Fulgham.
Colton Peel went six inning for Houston, with 15 strikeouts and Eli Hancock fanned three in the seventh,
Choctaw County had seven hits in the second game, but once again the Chargers were unable to bring anyone home. Braden Hines had a single and double and Threadgill two singles.
Evans and Dawson Jones each pitched three innings and allowed two hits. Kylan Carpenter had a complete game for Houston, with 12 strikeouts.
With the losses, Choctaw County is 4-2 overall, but 0-2 in MHSAA Region 4-3A.
Through six games, Hines leads the team offensively with a .474 batting average (9 of 19), with three doubles, a homer and 10 RBIs. Telano and Threadgill are both batting .400. The Chargers have a team ERA of 2.45.
Choctaw County will play twice Thursday against Yazoo County and Louisville, with both games at Louisville.
