The Choctaw County baseball team rebounded from an 8-1 loss to Hatley with a 9-4 victory over the same opponent.
The big difference according to coach Andy Young was defense. “It's the tale of our season. When we don't make errors we play pretty good.”
The Chargers jumped out to a 7-0 lead through four innings and coasted to victory in the second Hatley game behind a 10-hit attack and the pitching of Dawson Jones. Jones surrendered nine hits, but only three earned runs, pitching his best in key situations.
Calvin Talley and Landon Wells led the offense. Talley had two hits and four RBIs and Wells doubled twice, drove home one run and scored two.
The Chargers managed only two hits, a double by Logan Murphy and a single by Richard Ricardo, in the first Hatley game.
Choctaw County finished the week with a 10-7 loss to Philadelphia when a seventh inning rally came up short. Young attributed the loss to pitching woes. “My pitchers really struggled. I had to use four pitchers.”
The Chargers played Nettleton Tuesday, have a rematch at Nettleton Friday and a game at Eupora Saturday.
