The Choctaw County boys and girls basketball teams suffered tough losses to Louisville last week. The boys lost 60-51 and the girls 50-43.
The Chargers cut a six-point halftime deficit to one and had a chance to take the lead at the end of the third quarter, but missed two shots. Drea Shumaker of Louisville then made a lengthy three-pointer as the third period ended, giving the Wildcats a four-point lead.
“That was a back breaker right there,” said Choctaw County coach Gay Beals. “We should have had the momentum at the end of the quarter.”
Instead it was Louisville with the momentum and the Wildcats pulled away during the final period.
Jared Bellew led Choctaw County with 17 points. Zavier Coleman had nine points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Lady Chargers led 18-7 after one quarter, but Louisville pulled within four at the half, 27-23, then took the lead by outscoring Choctaw County 21-11 in the third period.
LaGenesis Johnson made six of eight field goal attempts, including one of one from three points range for Choctaw County. She had 19 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Raquela Graham also had a strong game. She was five of six from the floor for 10 points and had eight rebounds and three assists. Jalia James scored nine points.
Home games scheduled for December 16 with Leake Central were postpone due to the threat of severe weather. The makeup date is January 22.
The Chargers will play Tishomingo County at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the East Webster Shoot Out.
