The Louisville Rotary Club is staying active in the community under its 2018-19 President Julie Cunningham.
As part of Cunnigham’s tenure she has setup to honr a Student of the Month from the schools in Winston County.
The first August meeting was arranged by Kyle Curran. Kiley Kirk spoke with the members about the Juvenile Court System. They also inducted two new members- Martha Gammill, a retired attorney and Ken Carter, plant manager for Winston Plywood.
August's student of the month was Maya Clay. Maya is a senior at Louisville High School and is the drum major of the L.H.S. marching band. She is also president of her class and a member of the student council, student advisory board and Beta Club among many other honors. Maya was accompanied by Principal Hilute Hudson.
The speaker for the August 29 meeting at Rotary was Jim Moore from Hattiesburg. Moore gave a very touching story about the loss of his son to drug addiction. The program was arranged by Julie Cunningham.
In September Anna Grace Woolery of Winston Academy was the Student of the Month.
One of the top Rotary programs in October was Coach Vic Shaeffer, head women's basketball coach at Mississippi State University, and Ketara Chapell, former MSU basketball player and now graduate assistant. The program was arranged by Johnny Fair. Lexie Thomas of Noxapater Attendance Center was Rotary's Student of the Month for October. Principal Chet Wilkes attended the Rotary program with her.
In one of the meetings in November Bill Fryery, proud veteran of the Vietnam War spoke to the Rotary members. Bill told some interesting stories about his experiences in Vietnam, fishing and his time with the health department. John Fair arranged the program.
The November Student of the Month was from Nanih Waiya School and is Hanna Higginbotham. She is the daughter of Kristi and John David Higginbotham. She is the 2018 Homecoming Queen, Cheerleader Captain, President of the Student Council, Beta Club member, Campus Favorite, Best School Spirit. Hanna plans to attend East Central Community College and the University of Mississippi.
The November 28 Rotary Program was the coaches, principals and a player from what would become the 2018 State Football Champions from Nanih Waiya and Louisville.
